Spicy Horse (Má là mǎ in Chinese) is a Shanghai-based, independent video game developer that was founded in 2007 by American McGee. It is currently the largest independent Western developer in China. The company specializes in creating boutique games using rapid production techniques and high-end technology, with a creative focus on story-telling and art. Most of the titles released by Spicy Horse have been based on macabre re-imagines of fairy tales and classic literature.
While Spicy Horse produces video games for home consoles, a subdivision of the company called Spicy Pony focuses on producing game apps for the iTunes Store.
Spicy Horse was the development team for Electronic Arts behind Alice: Madness Returns, the sequel to American McGee's Alice, which is currently their most well-known game.
